Flipped Classrooms Help Local Students Learn

Math teacher Wayne Tsai doesn’t spend his days lecturing to students at Hilliard Darby High School. Instead he is helping them do their homework.

It’s called a flipped classroom because students watch a lecture that Tsai records online the night before, and do homework the next day in class. Read the entire article and watch the video.

MyMathLab white paper released

The MyMathLab white paper is here! Pass rates increased an average of 66% for high school Algebra 1 students after using MyMathLab (powered by the MathXL engine) in the College Readiness Program at Louisiana State University. Based on a need to improve student scores, increase technology and reduce costs, LSU began using MyMathLab in 2004 and introduced the program to local high schools in 2006. Courses Aligned to Common Core State Standards

Common Core State Standards have been added to additional courses in MathXL for School. With the addition of standards, teachers can create and assign homeworks and assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards to ensure students are learning CCSS content, even if they won't be assessed on that content for a few years. Reporting tools in the Gradebook also allow teachers to see which standards students have mastered and where they need additional practice.

We will be doing one of our twice-yearly updates to MathXL for School on Dec. 29th. As a result, the program will be unavailable during the following times:

     Wednesday, December 29, 06:00 AM to 11:59 PM EST
     (Wednesday, 29 December, 11:00 to Thursday, 30 December, 04:59 GMT)

Please do not schedule tests or assignments during this time. MathXL for School courses will be temporarily unavailable. No new player installation is required with this release.

MathXL for School Courses Aligned to State Standards

A select number of courses in MathXL for School have been aligned to state standards. For courses that offer standards alignment, you can view gradebook tools by state standard, not just course objective. You can also export data by standard and view student performance by standard. For a full list of which courses offer alignment to state standards, visit the Alignment to Standards page. New alignments are added to MathXL for School regularly, and we will be adding alignment to the Common Core State Standards soon.

Teacher Refresher Courses

Be Prepared!

We want you to feel prepared for the first day of class. Pearson now offers 15 self-paced courses in MathXL for School that you can enroll in to brush up on your math skills.

These 15 modules last approximately 4-5 hours each and are grouped under Arithmetic Review, Prealgebra Review, Algebra Review (including Algebra I and II), and Precalculus Review (including College Algebra and Trigonometry). You may take as many of these courses as you like, but please note that you may only be enrolled in one course at a time.
